LFW SS20: Burberry

Burberry - Change Happens

Since Riccardo Tisci made the move from Givenchy to Burberry, he truly has given the brand a new lease of life whilst maintaining the strong element of tradition and heritage. I really love the more modern updates for the brand and it seems like everyone else does as well seeing as the brand seems to be doing better now than in recent years.

I do have to make a retraction from an earlier post I wrote. In my Introduction to LFW post, I said not many of the big supermodels come to LFW but they all turned up for Burberry. Even Kendall Jenner who hasn't walked any of the SS20 shows, up until Burberry. Not only did she walk the catwalk but she also unveiled her new dirty blonde hair which gave the show a massive amount of press. Both the Hadid Sisters walked and I adored Bellas outfit but I will get onto that.

Spring/Summer 2020

There are so many different parts of the show I want to talk about but I am going to start with the fact that streetwear was not as present as it was last season, there were certainly elements of it but it is blended with some of the formal pieces. Whereas last season there was a section that seemed incredibly formal and a more colloquial section.

Within some of the more formal parts of the runway are shirts and trousers however, I love some of the outfits that encompass shirts, like the outfit above. It had that incredibly formal coat which looks like their classic trench coat but with slightly different sleeves and it had a shirt dress underneath. From the top, this shirt looks very formal but the fact that it is a dress makes it more casual.

There are also so many different textures in this runway with tassles being a common theme throughout the runway. There was also a lot of different patterns like pin stripes, gingham but I have to say one pattern that was notably missing was the classic Burberry check. There was some check but it wasn't the traditional check, it had an update in the form of the colour scheme.

There has also been a change to the colour scheme this season. From Burberry you expect more neutral shades and there is certainly neutral beige outfits but this season there is a lot more grey and black which is a slight change and adds a more modern feel. There is the occasional bit of colour but not a tremendous amount.

I have to say I really struggled to narrow it down to a few looks I liked because I have to say I liked the majority of the Burberry runway this season but the pictures I've included in this post are my top 4 outfits, I would happily wear all of them. However, I've got to say I love the shaping in the outfit below, this is the sort of outfit I want to wear everyday.

Based on This Show, What Should You Add to Your S/S Wardrobe?

From the Industrial Buckle Belt to the Industrial Harness - I really loved the Off White Industrial Belts but I think the harness that Burberry have created this season is amazing. It creates such a wonderful shape around the body whilst making you look effortlessly chic. I don't know how much this will be adopted on the high street but I will be looking out for an alternative on fast fashion websites.

Business Patterns for your Daily Life. There are a lot of shirts within the runway with a lot of them being used as under shirts or over shirts but there are also a lot of pin stripes, like the ones you would find on a business shirt. To add this to your S/S wardrobe, either start adding skirts to your everyday wardrobe or the easier option is to add the pin stripes.

Forget Neutral Tones. When I think of Burberry, I think of trench coats and that classic Burberry check but this season both have had an update away from the traditional beige and into something more grey and modern. As someone who cannot get away with neutral tones this is a welcome change.

Do Blondes Have More Fun? Even though Bella Hadid has been going more blonde for the past couple of  months, during this runway it was the most blonde she has been and also the shortest her hair has been. However, Kendall Jenner as a blonde was completely new and you know what, I like both of their hair colours. I do think I prefer both of them with dark hair but blonde is a fun change.
