Full Moon Holiday Events | Have a lot of fun during Chuseok holiday!!

Events of Full Moon Holiday!

There is an old saying in Korea, “We wish everyday would be just as abundant and happy as Full Moon Holiday."

There are two biggest holidays in Korea. One is the lunar/Chinese New Year, and the other is Full Moon holiday. As many people know, Full Moon holiday (Chuseok) is for celebrating a Korean traditional Thanksgiving after harvest. During the holiday, we can see our family and relatives who we haven’t seen for a long time. It’s a kind of family reunions which Korean can have just a couple of times a year. So we Koreans share good foods and good mood with our family.

On the day before Chuseok, we prepare foods together with our family. Even though women are usually cooking Chuseok’s foods, all the family are making Song Pyeon (Pine rice cake) together.

On Chuseok, we hold a memorial service for our ancestor in the morning. After that or in the afternoon, we visit our family grave.

And there are some Korean traditional games for Chuseok. We dance Gang-gang-sul-rae under the full moon at night. It’s a kind of a circle dance with our neighbor. Unfortunately, we can hardly see this group dance except on TV.
And other traditional Korean games on Chuseok are tug-of-war, kite-flying, neolttwig (Korean high-Jumping game), and ssireum (Korean wrestling).

There are many programs and events to have a greater time with our family or our friends.
So, we’d like to introduce some programs and some events during the Chuseok holiday as below.
