The Other Guy on the Card

1998 Topps J.J Davis/Troy Glaus

Troy Glaus was a superstar in the early 2000's and with his resurgence this year with the Braves (boo) he's back on everyone's radar. So let's take a look at his rook* and see who the other guy is...

J.J Davis was the 8th overall pick in '97 amateur draft by the Pirates and was ranked as the 10th best high school baseball prospect.

He never really impressed in the minors until 2002 when he hit .287 with 20 home runs, earning him a September call up.

Despite being so highly touted, he never saw much playing time as he would contend for outfield spots with the Pirates against the likes of Jason Bay, Brian Giles and Raul Mondesi. In 4 years in the Major Leagues, he complied a career total of 106 plate appearances, the last of which came in '05 with the Nationals.

Final Verdict:

It's a pretty safe bet to say the Davis won't have his number retired by the Pirates anytime soon, but still, you ave to do something to be ranked the 10th best prospect at any level of anything. I hear legend that there's a batting cage in my new town somewhere. I haven't found it yet, but when I do- LOOK OUT! We'll chalk this one up to good timing...
